This Weekend’s Movies: My Picks
Duplicity
Universal is betting on Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, and Paul Giamatti. Sounds like a pretty safe bet. Roberts and Owen are at the top of their respective games and have great chemistry. Paul Giamatti is one of my favorite actors and, in my opinion, any moviw with him is worth seeing!
I Love You, Man
Dreamworks weighs in this weekend with a very interesting premise. Peter Klaven (gotta wonder if he’s related to Cliff from “Cheers”) has found his dream girl. Now, he’s gotta start dating to find a potential best man! Great entry in the bromance comedy genre (brom-com?). Looks funny, but none of the actors are particular favorites of mine. The terrific J.K. Simmons does play Peter’s father, though! Starring: Paul Rudd, Jason Segal, Rashida Jones.
Knowing
When a school opens a time capsule buried 50 years ago, one of it’s students ends up with a sheet of paper full of numbers, put in by a girl to represent her vision of the world 50 years later. The student’s father discovers that those numbers have accurately predicted dates, death tolls, and coordinates of every major disaster in the last 50 years.
This kind of movie always catches my interest. This kind of movie with Nicolas Cage catches my interest even more. Cage is always so earnest in this type of role. Speaking of predictions, it’s rumored that this movie, along with “I Love You, Man” and “Duplicity” will be in a three-way fight for this week’s box-office champ.
The Great Buck Howard
Comedy has never been my favorite movie genre, but this particular comedy stars another of my never-to-be-missed actors, John Malkovich. Add Colin and Tom Hanks, as well as Emily Blunt to the mix and it’s looking pretty good.
A handful of smaller films to be released this weekend includes Valentino: The Last Emperor, Hearts and Minds (both documentaries), Sin Nombre, and Super Capers.

Thanks for the previews. I want to see Duplicity and I Love You, Man!
